WORLD Racing team owner and driver Christian Rado piloted his Scion tC Pro Front Wheel Drive drag car to a personal best elapsed time of 7.87 seconds during qualifying for the NOPI XBOX Cup event at South Georgia Motorsports Park this past weekend.  Rado, 30 of Hollywood, California, has been racing the Scion tC for the past year trying to sort the bugs out of the unique combination.

“We have struggled with this car from the onset,” he explained.  “But the past week and a half my guys went over the car with a fine toothed comb and found some flaws in the suspension and driveline.  They did about 3 weeks worth of work in 1 week and I take my hat is off to them.  They, along with the enormous support from our sponsors Scion, WORLD electronics, WORLD Motorsports, ACT, JE Pistons, Bosch, and REV Valves, are the reason this car is coming around.”

The crew consisting of Rob Miller, Gary Kubo and Kurt Siebel is led by crew chief Shane Tecklenburg.  Tecklenburg, 32 of Aliso Viejo, California, had this to say of the performance, “We are out here just trying to go from point A to point B.  We’re not trying to set the world on fire, we will wait for that when our new car comes out here.  The new design is much more ‘racer friendly’ and Rob (Miller) is doing an excellent job on the construction and design of the car.”

Based on their number 1 qualifying position, the team sat poised for action on Sunday morning.  Their 7.87 was the quickest of the entries in the Pro FWD class and therefore drew a bye run in the semi-final round, virtually guaranteeing Rado a birth into the final round of eliminations.  As fate would have it, however, during that run, a gust of wind pushed the car over the centerline and the team was disqualified from running in the final round.

“We’re disappointed in the results from eliminations but we leave here with the knowledge that we are going in the right direction,” said Rado.  “Forward progress at this point is a welcome change with this car. It is very temperamental.  We will go home and get this thing ready for action next week in E-Town.”

The next event on the tour for the WORLD Racing team is the Nitto NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Spring Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway in Englishtown, New Jersey May 6-7, 2006.
